Sunday, December 7 at St. Peter’s will mark an uncommon and vital time in the Church New Year. We will gather as a church family to celebrate our corporate journey into Christ at the 9:30 a.m. Annual Meeting of the Parish. I hope that you will attend this important one-hour session during which we will have focused time to reflect on our past, present, and future as the body of Christ at the corner of North Tryon and West Seventh streets.
Just when we would expect the day to end, we are presented with two offerings to which all ages are invited back to St. Peter’s. The ancient yet relevant service of Advent Lessons and Carols at 5:00 p.m. draws us more intimately into God through timely words from the Holy Scriptures, congregational hymn singing, choral anthems, and music for organ. After this approximately one hour liturgy, the 6:00 p.m. Annual Parish Advent Party will provide a venue for sheer fellowship, food-sharing and making those connections that are important for faith communities. It is communal evening times like these that I enjoy and encourage others to attend. They bring together all sorts and conditions of people who make their spiritual home at St. Peter’s and who, in most cases, go separate ways after Sunday.
All this is to express my own gratitude for the abundant life we share as a church family. It is my constant prayer that we will enhance our connections with St. Peter’s. Our vision is to become a community of bold followers of Jesus, a crowd that effects good change for the world, a place known for radical love and welcome, and a beacon of hope in Center City Charlotte. Together, we will inherit the kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven.
Advent blessings and the peace of the Lord be always with you.
The Reverend Ollie V. Rencher, Rector
