“But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by every ligament with which it is equipped, as each part is working properly, promotes the body’s growth in building itself up in love.” –Ephesians 4:15–16
In this Sunday’s reading from St. Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, he reminds them, and us, that it takes all of us to populate the Body of Christ, and that doing so based in love is the only sure way to succeed. At St. Peter’s, we have worked diligently to provide opportunities to speak the truth in love, through formation offerings for all ages, liturgies to listen to God’s word and participate in table fellowship, and parish-wide meetings to discuss difficult issues.
Your Vestry, made up of twelve parishioners elected at the Annual Meeting in December, works steadily to support all these efforts, helping to coordinate programs with the Parish clergy, staff, and volunteers. I encourage you to seek out Vestry members and share your hopes and talents with them.
My prayer for all of us is that as we continue to work together to build up the Body of Christ, making St. Peter’s a place known for radical love and welcome, we take St. Paul’s exhortation to heart, and rejoice in the knowledge that “…each of us was given grace according to the measure of Christ’s gift” (–Ephesians 4:7).
