Sharing the Gift of Music

Let this be my epitaph: The only proof he needed for the existence of God was music.” – Kurt Vonnegut

Vestry-Web-9Many of us agree with Mr. Vonnegut’s assessment. But beautiful music not only reminds us of the existence of the Almighty; it also reminds us of God’s love for us.

At St. Peter’s, we are the inheritors of the rich musical tradition of the Anglican tradition and we do our best to make the most of it. Our choirs and music staff put a lot of effort into making our musical offerings of praise to God the best they can be. And beyond our worship services, we strive to share with others God’s love for us as manifested in great music, through the Choir School, various concerts and recitals, and through the ministry of Center City Concerts at St. Peter’s.

Center City Concerts is wrapping up its third successful season in partnership with St. Alban’s, Davidson, providing free lunchtime concerts on the third Monday of each month from September to May. Our audiences continue to grow and are comprised of a diverse group of music lovers including local office workers, students, parishioners, and residents of retirement and special needs communities.

Of course, free concerts are not free to produce; we rely on contributions to sustain our programming. We are very grateful for the generous support we have received from parishioners in the past and we hope that we can continue to count on that as we complete plans for our fourth season. One opportunity to support the series is our fundraiser on Wednesday evening, June 1st, featuring a reception in the garden followed by a concert of English and other music in our “Downtown Abbey.” More information is available at our website,
