Our youth are fortunate to be able to participate in a very strong formation program throughout the school year with classes for each group meeting each Sunday. We have a group of excellent youth leaders/advisers/teachers who usually stay with the same group as they advance through the curriculum year by year. The five years of the curriculum culminate in a spiritual pilgrimage to Italy, Spain, or wherever the group feels they will learn the most. Our current group of high school juniors and seniors are planning to go to Italy next summer. After the Pilgrimage, they return for Confirmation preparation and more spiritual discernment.
Our youth program represents a huge investment from the youth, from the church, and especially from the dedicated leaders, who also learn a lot about themselves even as they learn about the youth as individuals and as a group. I hope it goes without saying, but I have to add here, that the glue that holds this program together is our energetic and always-giving youth leader–Lyn Holt. I also challenge you to compare our program to any youth programs, larger or smaller, and you will be amazed with all that we do with the limited resources available.
Lyn finds a way for all of our youth to participate in our programs as long as they participate in class during the school year and participate in the youth activities which are a combination of outreach, fellowship, and self-learning during the year. All of these events are important because many are also fundraising opportunities which help the youth to earn money to fund the Pilgrimage.
The next two events that the parish can participate in are:
Yard Sale: This Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Karen and Andy Nicholson’s home, 3412 Cambria Road, Charlotte. Please clean out your closets, attics, garages and basements for things we can sell! The yard sale is from 8:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m.
Shrimp and Suds Dinner: Saturday night, October 1, on the rooftop at St. Peters, 6:30–9:30 p.m. This is an adult event only. You can register now on the church website, www.st-peters.org/rsvp.
You will also have an opportunity to hear about last summer’s racial reconciliation mission trip to Ferguson, Mo. this Sunday in the Parish Hall from 9:30–10:30 a.m.
Thanks for all your efforts to support our youth.
