Every year, the St. Peter’s Parish family convenes for the Annual Meeting of the Parish on the first or second Sunday of Advent, the beginning of the Church New Year. The assembly elects new Vestry members, receives written ministry area reports from Vestry coordinators, reviews a draft operating budget for the coming year, and hears remarks from the Wardens and Rector. More than anything, it is an important annual time to celebrate life at St. Peter’s by reflecting on the past, focusing on the present, and imagining the future.
The Wardens, Vestry, and I hope that all able-bodied members and newcomers will arrange to be present for this one-hour meeting on Sunday, December 4 at 9:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall. Immediately following, Advent Lessons and Carols with The Holy Eucharist will be offered at 10:45 a.m. after which all are invited to a Festive Advent Potluck Luncheon. While the morning will be full, it undoubtedly will be a perfect way to continue our journey to the season of Christmas.
Advent invites us to consider approaches to daily living that will glorify God. May we use this holy season to pay attention; be astonished; tell about it; practice goodness; and bless others. Our Parish Vision is to become a community of bold followers of Jesus, a crowd that effects good change for the world, a place known for radical love and welcome, and a beacon of hope in Center City Charlotte. I look forward to celebrating this vision and much more at the Annual Meeting, and in whatever ways we might gather and connect as members of the body of Christ.
Advent blessings and peace be with you and yours,
The Reverend Ollie V. Rencher, Rector
