Weekday Morning Prayer and Noon Eucharist Holiday Schedule. Monday–Friday, 8:00–8:30 a.m. Morning Prayer in the Chapel of the Saints is a beautiful offering for the start of the day. Spread the word that this liturgy of The Book of Common Prayer will not be offered December 26–28 and January 2. Our Tuesday Noon Eucharist, which also draws parishioners and visitors alike, will not be offered on December 27. All are most welcome and encouraged to bring guests to join them for any and all of these weekday offerings.

Waking Up White Book Discussion: St. Peter’s has an ongoing commitment to racial justice, viewing it as essential to God’s work of reconciling all people to Godself through Christ. All are invited to read Waking Up White by Debby Irving over the holiday season. We will be discussing book themes on two Wednesday nights, January 4 and 11, 7:00–8:00 p.m. If you plan to read the book and attend one or both of these clergy-led discussions, or would like to participate in a potential daytime group, contact Ministry Associate, Elaine Wood (, 704-749-6141).

Annual Greening of the Church, Friday, December 23. On Friday, December 23, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and ending 2:00 p.m. or until finished, all ages are invited to share in an annual fun occasion of cleaning, polishing, decorating, and preparing our sacred space for Christmas with candles, wreaths, garlands, and poinsettias. Come for the entire time or when your schedule permits. Refreshments will be provided. Note: Volunteers also are needed to assist the Altar and Flower Guilds with the removal of the greenery and basic cleanup during the week of December 26. Children’s Christmas Eve Pageant. Our pageant will be offered as the Liturgy of the Word for the 4:00 p.m. Holy Eucharist on Christmas Eve. Children take on various roles as active participants in the Gospel of Luke. All children, ages 2 through 12, are encouraged to join the cast of this annual tradition. A final rehearsal will be held on December 24 from 2:30 p.m. until the beginning of the service. Supporting Center City Concerts. The Board of Directors for this non-profit organization based at St. Peter’s is seeking donations to support the offering of “free” concerts at St. Peter’s. Holy Chow Breakfast Suspended for Christmas and New Year’s Days. Our Sunday weekly fellowship, 8:30–9:25 a.m., will not be offered on December 25 and January 1 to give the Holy Chow teams a holiday break. This hearty breakfast and good fellowship served in the Community Room will resume on Sunday, January 8. On December 5, our Rector shared news that our Associate Rector has accepted the call to serve as the Rector of a parish in the Diocese of Western North Carolina. Her last Sunday at St. Peter’s will be January 8. Leave-taking Reception for The Reverend Joslyn Ogden Schaefer, Sunday, January 8. A reception to honor the ministry of The Reverend Joslyn Ogden Schaefer will take place Sunday, January 8 after the 10:45 a.m. liturgy. If you would like to offer a financial gift in thanksgiving for her ministry and fill a “purse” for her journey, checks should be made payable to “St. Peter’s Church” (Memo: Associate Rector’s Ministry).

Parish Intern to Serve at St. Peter’s in 2017. Beginning the week of January 1, Mrs. Robin Sands will become a part of the parish family as part of the 10-month internship required for the diocesan ordination process for Vocational Deacons. As Parish Intern, Robin will collaborate with the Parish Clergy to learn, support, and serve in ministry areas, such as liturgy, pastoral care, outreach, social justice, and congregational development, and be among us on a weekly basis. Stay tuned for more from the Rector about Robin and her family, who are active members of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Charlotte.

Room in the Inn (RITI) Launch and Supply Needs. St. Peter’s Room in the Inn (RITI) seasonal ministry began December 7 and additional volunteers are needed. Each Wednesday evening through March, we provide a warm, welcoming place where twelve neighbors can share a meal and sleep in our Parish Hall. Volunteers handle every aspect of this ministry, from providing and serving meals, making sack lunches, setting up beds, cooking and serving breakfast, staying overnight, and doing laundry. Meanwhile, the following items are needed for our neighbors: travel-size deodorant, travel-size toothpaste/toothbrushes, lip balm, hand lotion, hand towels, washcloths. Place donations in the RITI basket in the Parish House lobby.

Associate Rector Search Advisory Circle Appointed. The Rector has appointed Carolyn Carlburg, Sue Coonen, Phyllis Ferguson, Irma Hoffman, Des Keller, Paul Keller, Ann Luszcz, Bert Miano, Cooper Morrison, and Dan Moore to assist his process of calling the next Associate Rector after the leave-taking of the Reverend Joslyn Ogden Schafer in January. Episcopal Church Missioner for Social Justice and Advocacy Engagement Ordained Priest. Our parish friend and colleague in servant ministry, the Reverend Chuck Wynder, Jr. was ordained to the Sacred Order of Priests on Sunday, December 11, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C. Chuck, Bethany, and their son Chase now live in Washington, where Chuck continues his service on the staff of The Episcopal Church and recently assumed clergy duties at Holy Comforter Episcopal Parish. Let us give thanks for Chuck’s talented ministry among us as he has expressed his gratitude for time in Charlotte, especially to support life at St. Peter’s.

Episcopal Summer Camps for Children and Youth: North Carolina is blessed to have three overnight summer camp programs for children and youth: Camp Henry at Lake Logan, Camp Kanuga in Hendersonville, and Camp Trinity near Pine Knoll Shores. Anna Hurdle and Lyn Holt (Directors of Children and Youth Formation, respectively) can answer initial questions you might have about these camp experiences. Our own diocese sponsors a week-long HUGS camp for campers living with disability and teens who assist them. These camps enhance the faith formation programs St. Peter’s offers. Check them out!
