The Security Committee will share the recently completed St. Peter’s Emergency Response Plan, as well as hear from experts of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the Urban Ministry Center. Breakout sessions for each group will follow and lunch will be provided. Please RSVP to Kristie Lauderbaugh (, 704-749-6141) by August 6.

Summer Formation: “Lift up your hearts,” July 28 and August 4. On Sundays July 28 and August 4 at 9:30 a.m., all ages are invited to join the parish clergy in the Community Room for a two-week, interactive series on the Holy Eucharist. “Lift up your hearts,” is an interactive opportunity to learn more about our weekly worship, specifically the two primary movements of the Holy Eucharist: the Ministry of the Word and the Ministry of the Table. Join us for this fun, informative, and hands on formation opportunity!

Newcomers’ Coffee, Sunday, July 21. All who are new (or new-ish) to the parish and want to get acquainted with other newcomers, members, and the clergy are invited to a time of refreshment, fellowship and community-building in the Parlor immediately following the 10:45 a.m. service. This special opportunity is for those who are new to meet and connect with one another. If interested in attending, please RSVP to Mike Hoffman ( or with any questions, contact Associate Rector, the Reverend Amanda Stephenson (, 704-749-6150).

Summer Book Club: Meetings on July 31 and September 5. As part of our summer Adult Formation, we will be offering a Summer Book Club. During the summer months we will read three books together, all by well-known contemporary Christian authors, and all published last year. For our book club meetings, we will gather at the church in the Community Room, 6:00–8:00 p.m., for a time of refreshments, conversation, and fellowship. Participants are asked to read the book ahead of time and to bring either a drink or snack to share. The remaining dates and books are: Wednesday, July 31 – Shameless: A Sexual Reformation by Nadia Bolz-Weber; and Thursday, September 5 – I’m Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness by Austin Channing Brown. Join us!

Pride at St. Peter’s. Charlotte Pride is one of the many opportunities in our parish life to connect with our neighbors. This year’s festivities will take place August 17 and 18. St. Peter’s will have a booth in the festival on Saturday and Sunday and will be an opportunity to welcome and connect with our neighbors. On Sunday August 18, Parents Connect will offer hospitality to parade marchers and viewers on the church lawn. St. Peter’s will be marching in the parade again this year. Opportunities to volunteer, to sign up to march, and to purchase a St. Peter’s t-shirt will be coming soon!

Worship and Music

Observing Weekly Worship at St. Peter’s. Every weekday and Sundays, St. Peter’s offers opportunities for worship, study, and reflection. See a daily schedule online to learn more.

Daily Worship at St. Peter’s. Morning and Evening Prayer are offered daily in the Chapel. Morning Prayer begins at 8:00 a.m., Monday–Friday, and Evening Prayer is offered at 5:30 p.m., Monday–Thursday. This 30-minute liturgy is a wonderful way to mark the beginning or end of your day. A mid-week Holy Eucharist is offered at noon on Tuesdays followed by fellowship in the Parlor.

Parish Hall Forum. The Parish Hall Forum will resume on “Kickoff Sunday,” August 25. Stay tuned to the eNews for occasional summer formation offerings.

Community Life

Volunteers Needed for Summer Lemonade Hosts. Lemonade in the Churchyard has been a wonderful success this summer! It is a fun opportunity to gather with one another after the 10:45 a.m. service for some light refreshments and wonderful fellowship. We are looking forward to continuing this fellowship opportunity through the summer, but we need your help to do so. We are looking for volunteers to host on 7/21 and 8/18. Hosting is very simple and does not require you to provide any of the food or supplies. If you are interested in volunteering for one of these dates or have any questions, contact Mother Amanda (

Intercessory Prayer on Sunday Mornings. A familiar term at St. Peter’s, “intercessory prayer” has various meanings to members. At each celebration of the Holy Eucharist, we’re led in intercessory prayer during the Prayers of the People. Clergy and staff members also constantly hold people in prayer. But on a more personal level, the opportunity to pray directly with prayer partners is available each Sunday after Communion in the Intercessory Prayer Room adjacent to the Church Parlor. For those seeking prayers of thanksgiving or for healing in body, mind, or spirit, it’s a time to share prayer requests with full confidentiality in a private setting. If you have questions, contact Pat Markel (

Parents Connect Summer Plans. Parents Connect Sunday formation and fellowship will resume when the fall program year begins on Sunday, August 25. Please join us for Charlotte Pride Parade (Sunday, August 18 following the 10:45 am. service): Parents Connect will be running the Hospitality Tent at the Pride Parade this year. Of course you are more than welcome to march, but we will staff the church lawn, enjoy the parade, and pass out popsicles and other goodies. If you plan to attend either event, contact Erin Chantry (

The St. Francis Fund. The clergy and executive committee of the Vestry have re-established the St. Francis Fund, a restricted benevolence fund to assist St. Peter’s parishioners with housing and medical needs. If you are interested in contributing to this important fund, please contact Parish Administrator, Leigh Dixon (, 704-749-6142).

Stewardship of Time and Talent. Christian stewardship calls us to consider not only how we give our money, but how we give our time and talent in the work of God’s kingdom. During the summer months the Stewardship and Congregational Engagement teams will highlight various ministries in the parish. Stay tuned to the weekly eNews and Sunday “minutes for ministry” to learn how you might offer your time and spiritual gifts in 2019.

Adult Pilgrimage to Greece and Rome, May 2020. Mother Amanda, Associate Rector, and Lyn Holt, Youth Program Director, invite active adults to consider joining them for an adult pilgrimage scheduled for May of 2020, when they plan to walk in the footsteps of St. Paul in Greece and Rome. They will visit Athens and Corinth, cruise the Greek Isles, and eventually make their way to Rome, where tradition says that Paul was martyred. Pick up a brochure or go to: for a full itinerary and registration information. If you have any questions, or would like to discuss the pilgrimage in greater detail, contact the Reverend Amanda C. Stephenson (, 704-749-6150).

Summer at St. Peter’s with Children’s Story Time. During the summer months while Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is on break, a special offering for young children will take place in the church Parlor during the Liturgy of the Word. Children will be invited to join two adult parishioners who will be sharing carefully selected literature. Children will follow a small cross after the Gospel and will re-enter at the Peace.

Volunteer Front Desk Receptionists. During St. Peter’s weekday business hours, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the St. Peter’s Reception Desk is staffed entirely by volunteers who actively receive visitors, give directions, and direct calls. We are still in need of morning shift volunteers on Mondays, 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m, and occasional substitutes. The church business office does not run as smoothly without a front desk attendant, so please consider this important ministry opportunity. Contact Leigh Dixon (, 704-749-6143) for more information.

Pet Grief Support Group, August 8. The Pet Grief Support Group meets on August 8 (and every second Thursday) at 7:00 p.m. in the Tower Room. For more information, contact Wes Sturgis (, 704-621-8613).

Senior Class Luncheon, August 20. The next third-Tuesday luncheon is August 20, 11:30 a.m., at a location to be announced soon. For more information or to be added to the email distribution list, call Dan Woodall (704-351-2279), Hannah Craighill (704-334-6276), or Barbara Partington (704-523-1831).

Prayer Requests. As a community, we offer support to one another through prayer. Requests may be made in several ways: complete a “Prayer Request” card located in the pew rack, submit your request online at, or contact Ministry Associate, Kristie Lauderbaugh (, 704-749-6141). Names of persons who have given consent for their names to be printed will be read aloud and listed for two Sundays, unless a longer period is requested. Intercessions are offered during Sunday and weekday worship, and daily by the Clergy and Pastoral Care Team.

Augustine Literacy Project Volunteer Literacy Tutors. Learn more about becoming a volunteer literacy tutor with Augustine Literacy Project-Charlotte, our commitment in training and supporting volunteer tutors, and our impact in helping students learn to read. Visit to read about upcoming “Coffee and Conversation” events at Caribou Coffee (Park Road Shopping Center) on Thursday, July 18 and Thursday, July 25 at 10:30 a.m. To RSVP or find out more, contact Jess Heath (

Name Tag Button Requests at the Reception Desk. Congregational Engagement invites all who are present for worship, programs, and events on Sundays to wear a name tag, either a St. Peter’s pre-made button or a hand-written tag to be made in the Parish House lobby. Button sign-up is available in the Parish House lobby at the Reception Desk.

What’s so great about St. Peter’s? We know that you know, so would you be willing to tell others about it? As we consider how to use our time and talent in the service of God’s kingdom, please give a little of your time once per month on an assigned Sunday to serve as Host-Greeter for 30 to 45 minutes. The opportunity to greet families, friends, and parishioners old and new is very rewarding! If interested in serving St. Peter’s as a Host-Greeter, please contact Sabrina Clarke (
