Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom: Enlighten by your Holy Spirit those who teach and those who learn, that, rejoicing in the knowledge of your truth, they may worship you and serve you from generation to generation; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. (BCP, 261.)
Our new program year begins on August 25, which means that our fall adult formation opportunities will begin rolling out over the next few weeks. We have lots of exciting opportunities for adults to engage in formation, including some new groups that will begin this fall. Space does not permit me to list the details of everything that will be offered, or give adequate descriptions, so I encourage you to keep a close eye on your eNews and service leaflet for the most up to date information. Here is what I can tell you:
Sundays Morning – The Forum will resume on August 25 and we have an exciting lineup of speakers and topics for the fall. However, the Forum will no longer be the only adult formation offering on Sunday mornings. We will also have several small groups or additional classes that will periodically meet at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays including (but not limited to) Parents Connect and a class on Discernment led by the Reverend Sally Johnston.
Sunday Afternoon – We will offer several opportunities for formation after our 10:45 a.m. service. Our Adult Confirmation class will meet from 12:30-2:00 p.m. beginning on September 8 and culminating with the Bishop’s visitation on October 20. Throughout the program year, we will also have a “Sermon Talk-Back” time from 12:15-12:45 p.m. where the congregation is invited to discuss the sermon with the preacher.
Weeknights – During the week there will be a variety of formation groups that will meet, some continuing, and some new. These include Education for Ministry (EfM), Monday Night Bible Study, Tuesday Night Book Study, and Pub Theology. There are also plans underway for a St. Peter’s Men’s Group, so please stay tuned for more details about when and where that will meet.
With so many opportunities for formation, there is something for everyone! I pray that all of the adults in our parish will recognize these wonderful classes, groups, and discussions as ways to grow in their faith and join us for as many as possible.
