Don’t Stop Believing (in the Power of Music)

The Choir School at St. Peter’s has officially started the 2020–2021 season! As always, we begin our year with Choir Camp for the town and tour choirs. Choir Camp was a jammed-packed week. Our Choristers not only learned new choral music, but they also received ukulele lessons, learned how to bucket drum, and practiced songwriting and composition. During the week, several guest speakers spent time with our choristers and talked about their careers in music and performed for our students.

In a normal year, this week would have ended with a live concert and a service of choral evensong. In short, Choir Camp sets the tone for the rest of the season. It is a chance for new choristers to learn how to be part of the choir. It is also a chance for returning choristers to remember the rules…

If Choir Camp is an indication of the year to come, there is reason to be optimistic. I am equally inspired by the creativity and dedication of our staff and the passion of our choristers. This weekend, we are hosting a virtual choir retreat with The MasterSingers. In the fall, The Choir School will sing for services of Evensong and will present multiple virtual choir projects for the Fall and Christmas Concerts.

If you know a child that is looking to try something new this year, please encourage them to visit our website (thechoirschool.org) to learn more about the exciting program we have planned for the rest of the year!

On another note, I have been grateful for the opportunity to sing evening services of compline and evensong with St. Peter’s Choir. I hope you will consider praying and worshipping with us in the near future.

Kindly,

Garrett John Law, Assistant Director, The Choir School at St. Peter’s
