Join us for The Ninth Sunday after Pentecost, July 25. Pre-registration is not required to attend worship at St. Peter’s and capacity limits are no longer in place. Our safety procedures at each service allow us to welcome all those who feel that in-person worship is safe for them at this time. Some COVID-19 protocols, including mask-wearing, remain in effect. Socially distanced seating is available in the chapel and on the pulpit side of the Nave. If you wish to worship in person, please come wearing your mask!

Nursery is Open. The nursery is open on Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for children, birth-age to 4 years old. For more information, contact Anna Hurdle (ahurdle@st-peters.org).

A Note Regarding Masks for Public Worship. Many of us are eager to dispense with mask-wearing, and others are not quite ready to do so. For now, the Diocese of North Carolina is asking us to continue mask-wearing in public worship, particularly when congregational singing occurs. The reality is that there are members of our community who, because of age or medical condition, cannot be vaccinated. We ask for your patience and understanding as we facilitate a worship environment that is safe for all.

Worship and Music

In-person Morning Prayer. Morning Prayer has resumed in the St. Peter’s Chapel on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:00 a.m. Morning Prayer on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and all Evening Prayer services will remain on Zoom for now. Coffee hour fellowship will be offered in the Parlor following Tuesday and Thursday offerings.

Weekday Holy Eucharist on Wednesdays at Noon. Each Wednesday at Noon, St. Peter’s clergy offer a service of Holy Eucharist in the Chapel. This brief service of Holy Communion is a great way to spend the lunch hour in Uptown and to worship alongside a smaller congregation of parishioners.

Daily Worship. Morning and Evening Prayer will be offered daily online or by phone. Morning Prayer is offered in-person in the St. Peter’s Chapel on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:00 a.m. These 30-minute liturgies are an excellent way to mark the beginning or end of your day. Consider daily worship as a means to deepen your own prayer discipline and as a way to offer gratitude to God. A link for each of the online services is on our home page under the menu, “Worship and Music | The Daily Office Online.”

Intercessory and Centering Prayer. We continue to pray from wherever we are, 10:45–11:45 a.m., Tuesday mornings. Contemplative Outreach of Piedmont N.C. reminds us that “in the silence of Centering Prayer, we pray for the whole world.” Online contemplative prayer groups are available through Contemplative Outreach’s website, copnc.org. Contact Ruth Woodend (rbwoodend@gmail.com), with questions.

Learning

Survey For In-Person Children’s Formation. Parents of children ages 2–12 are encouraged to complete a short survey. The results will inform our delivery of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd that resumes on Sunday, September 12. Take the survey online at forms.google.com.

Summer Prayer Formation. We will be offering a remote family prayer formation from July 4 to August 22. Each week, we will explore a specific prayer of the Church with background information on the featured prayer. Families are asked to make an effort to share the prayer at least once a day; the more repetition, the better. This offering is not limited to families with young children but open to all interested in exploring and expanding their prayer practices. For more information or to register, please contact Anna Hurdle (ahurdle@st-peters.org).

Wednesday Afternoon Book Group, 1:00–2:00 p.m. The Book Study is reading Christ of the Celts, The Healing of Creation by J. Philip Newell. Contact Ruth Woodend (rbwoodend@gmail.com) for further details.

Community Life

Reopening Our Doors: Weekday Offerings. The doors of St. Peter’s have reopened Monday–Thursday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m for private prayer, along with Morning Prayer on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:00 a.m. and a midweek Holy Eucharist in the Chapel on Wednesdays at Noon.

Parking Deck 7th Street Entrance Closure. Until August 15, the 7th Street entrance to the parking deck will be closed. Please use the 8th Street entrance when visiting the church.

Parish Retreat to Kanuga: November 12–14, 2021. In 2018, our Parish Retreat was canceled due to a hurricane; in 2020, it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Third time’s the charm! We are excited to announce the 2021 dates for our Parish Retreat to Kanuga Conference Center: November 12–14, 2021. Registration will open soon and more information will be forthcoming, but for now, mark your calendars for this fun-filled, family-friendly weekend away to the mountains.

Prayer Requests. As a community, we offer support to one another through prayer. Requests may be made in two ways: Submit your request online at www.st-peters.org/make-a-prayer-request or contact Clergy Assistant, Michael Talbert (mtalbert@st-peters.org, 704-749-6141). Names of persons who have given consent for their names to be printed will be read aloud and listed for four Sundays unless a more extended period is requested. Intercessions are offered during Sunday and weekday worship and daily by the Clergy and Pastoral Care Team.

Pastoral Care: Sharing and Responding to Concerns. To alert the clergy regarding a pastoral concern, send an email to Father Jacob (jpierce@st-peters.org) or Mother Amanda (astephenson@st-peters.org). For pastoral emergencies such as hospitalizations, dial the Clergy On-Call Phone at 704-749-6175. This process is the best way to communicate pastoral needs and ensure a response from a member of the clergy or pastoral care team.
