An Update on the Campaign for St. Peter’s

As we celebrate our patronal feast, the Confession of Saint Peter the Apostle, I’m excited to share an update on the Campaign for St. Peter’s.

After several years of listening, planning, and preparing, we are beginning to see our plans become reality. Because of your generosity, several pieces of the project are already underway, including the construction of woodwork for the chancel which is taking place in Girón, Santander, Colombia with the experts at Liturgical Arts & Crafts. We are also moving forward to finalize construction plans that will bring our basement up to code and renovate it for our youth and music ministries. And our first stained glass window, the St. Paul window in the chapel, has been removed and is now in Statesville being restored by Foothills Sand to Glass.

There is so much more to come. The interior renovation will also include new lighting and additional speakers to improve the experience of worship, particularly the spoken word. A separate gift will allow us to complete the organ and add additional stops that were part of the original plan in 2010. We continue to explore the best way to honor the mosaic in the current altar piece.

Our work will extend beyond the walls of St. Peter’s, and in the coming months, the Vestry will begin a process to determine how our outreach tithe will be invested in the community. There will be lots of opportunities for the members of the parish to offer their ideas about this important part of our plan..

There are still many details to work out, but we know that construction in the church will begin after Easter and continue until early October. We are working closely with Cram and Ferguson to develop a temporary floor design that may allow us to remain in the worship space throughout construction. As the program year unfolds, there will be regular updates on our progress and our anticipated timeline, including photos of what is happening behind the scenes. There is much to look forward to, and I am excited that we are making this journey together.

I am deeply grateful to everyone who has made a pledge to the Campaign for St. Peter’s. We now have only about 10%, or $500,000, remaining to raise from the parish. If you have not yet made a pledge, I invite you to join us. Every gift helps us prepare St. Peter’s for the generations who will worship, serve, and find a home here in the years to come.
