This fall, we welcomed back the choristers of Charlotte Choir School for in-person rehearsals and programming. After a year of remote choir rehearsals, we are thrilled to be making music together again. We continue to abide by strict health and safety protocols, such as masking and social distancing, but it is truly a joy to sing, learn, and get reacquainted with each other in person.
We began our season with our annual choir camp for our Town and Tour Choirs. This year was just a bit different. Because of the need to distance, particularly while singing, we held most of our musical activities down the street at First United Methodist Church. We are grateful to our friends at FUMC for opening their doors to us and being such welcoming hosts for camp this year. As always, camp was full of great music, fun activities, making new friends, and a final Evensong and concert that showed the remarkable work of our young singers across the week. We were also able to make our annual retreat to the Valle Crucis Conference Center with the MasterSingers for the first time in two years. It was a gift to have a full weekend of fun and music-making with our teens.
Our Fall Concerts are coming up next weekend: Friday, October 15 and Saturday, October 16 at 7:30pm. Because it would be impossible for us to distance our singers in the nave at St. Peter’s and still provide space for an audience, we are holding these concerts at First United Methodist (501 N. Tryon St.) You can purchase tickets online: https://charlottechoirschool.org/season/fall-concerts/. Parking will be available both in the Transamerica parking deck and the parking deck at FUMC. We hope you will plan to join us as we offer the first concerts of our 29th season.
St. Peter’s will always be our home and our most important partner. As we emerge from the pandemic with a new name, we are working to strengthen that partnership and increase our presence in the parish. One exciting new opportunity for both St. Peter’s and Charlotte Choir School is the chance for some of our singers to serve occasionally as the choir for the 9:00 a.m. Sunday service. And as we return more and more to our normal programming, we can’t wait to be back at home at St. Peter’s for our concerts. We are auditioning for our Spring 2022 semester! If you know a child that loves to sing, please visit our website for more information and to sign up for an audition: https://charlottechoirschool.org/join/.
