Back in the spring of 2020, before the pandemic interrupted so many of our plans, we were preparing to launch a recital series to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of our wonderful Fisk organ. Just a few short weeks before the first of those concerts, we realized that we needed to postpone. We are excited to announce that after a two year delay, this series will begin this March. We will welcome back some familiar faces across the coming months. It will be a wonderful chance to reconnect with some former music staff members, and to hear some great music on this remarkable instrument!

I will play the first of the recitals in March, featuring Maurice Duruflé’s Suite, Op. 5, a towering masterpiece of the organ repertoire. May’s recital will feature Ben Outen, our former Director of Music who served St. Peter’s and Charlotte Choir School for 24 years.
The series will resume in the fall with a recital in September given by former assistant Patrick Pope. Patrick is currently the Director of Music just down the street at Holy Comforter and has continued to be a presence in our community, even after his time on staff. In October, Aaron Goen will be our recitalist. Aaron became the assistant at St. Peter’s just prior to the arrival of the Fisk, and then served here for several years after its completion. He is currently Director of Music at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Georgetown, Washington, D.C., and is also the Director of Choral Music for the lower grades at the National Cathedral School.
And finally, in November, we will welcome renowned organist, Todd Wilson. Though Todd has never been on staff at St. Peter’s, he was my teacher and also taught our most recent former assistant, Garrett Law. Todd will offer a Saturday evening concert and will also play for a special celebratory Evensong on Sunday, with singers from St. Peter’s Choir and the MasterSingers of Charlotte Choir School.
We are blessed at St. Peter’s to have such a magnificent instrument to support our worship, inspire our singing, and enhance our parish life. I hope you will join us as we celebrate the 10-year (+2!) anniversary of C. B. Fisk, Op. 136.
